The SVC Writing Center, located on the Mount Vernon Campus, is open to all SVC students looking for help with and support for their writing.
The Writing Center offers students help with writing at all stages of the process: understanding an assignment, generating ideas, drafting, revising, and learning to edit effectively. Students work one-on-one with Writing Center tutors, who will help identify issues, answer questions, and offer suggestions for effective writing.
Writing Center consultants are current or recently graduated SVC students who have been successful writing for class and who can sympathize with common student struggles and questions. They will support you as you work to improve your current writing project and to increase your confidence in your writing. Consultants will not proofread or edit papers, but they will help you identify and learn to correct errors. We are especially eager to help early in the writing process as we find this leads to better results.
The Writing Center also offers student and faculty workshops on special topics; check our blog for current offerings.
Drop by the Center to get the help you want with your writing. (Sign-up appointments are also available.) Sessions are 30 minutes. For the most effective session, bring along the assignment you’re working on, as well as a print copy of any pre-writing or drafting you have. If you have nothing yet, that’s okay, too! We look forward to seeing you.
