Skagit Valley College

Public Information Office Services

The Public Information Office takes the lead in the planning and production of external communications activities for the college, helping to coordinate the official voice of the college. These activities include institutional publications, promotional materials, advertising campaigns, as well as interactions with the media.

Our core projects include enrollment marketing efforts, academic and student service program information, advertising campaigns, public relations, annual catalog and quarterly schedule production, accountability report, website messaging, as well as other external informational pieces.

PIO has organized a Media Toolkit, a variety of services and strategies designed to help you meet your promotion and communication needs: graphic design, writing/editing, photography, print coordination, promotional strategies, as well as web publishing.

The college community is encouraged to utilize PIO services to ensure that comprehensive and cohesive design concepts and editorial content that effectively represent the graphic identity and editorial style of Skagit Valley College. Contact or 416-7716 about your project.

The SVC Media Toolkit

A variety of "tools" are available to help you promote your program, activity, or event. The options below include traditional print, web-based, and social media strategies:

News Releases, Public Service Announcements, and Advertising

Many college activities, events, and initiatives are of interest to the general public: community members, alums, donors, and other friends of the college. PIO can help "spread the word" with district print, broadcast, and online media in Skagit, Island, and San Juan counties through news releases, public service announcements, and or advertising.

Note: it is important to remember that PIO cannot ensure that a news release will be picked up and used by the media. The decision about whether to run story or not, or when it may run, is made by the media editorial staff. The only way to ensure that your message appears in the media is to pay for advertising, either traditional print or online.

If you would like to talk about a specific promotion opportunity, please contact PIO, or 416-7716. For news releases, allow 3-4 weeks lead time for media scheduling. For advertising, contact PIO as soon as you have your event details confirmed.

    Brochures, Posters, Fliers, and Newsletters

All printed materials developed for enrollment marketing purposes, including program promotions and event planning, must be coordinated and developed through the Public Information Office. Graphic themes, color schemes and editorial styles have been developed for many of the district's academic programs, counseling, and other support services areas. These themes and styles have been carefully compiled by PIO to ensure graphic and editorial continuity.

If you need to develop a do-it-yourself, simple print or web piece, newsletter, e-flier, email with an attachment, you can access Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF templates in this Graphic Identity Guide. For quick print pieces, the SVC Copy Center can help you with low cost printing solutions for brochures, fliers, newsletters and other materials. Please contact SVC Copy Center for more information, 360.416.7928.

If you have any questions or need assistance with print materials and printing processes, please contact the Public Information Office, or 416-7716.

Photography is not a required element on all communication materials for the college, but it can certainly enhance the look and feel of most any piece. The Public Information Office has galleries filled with pre-approved images that are available for immediate usage. For more information about photography, contact or 416.7716.
